The primary responsibility of the Edgar County Emergency Services & Disaster Agency (ESDA) is to better prepare Edgar County for natural or man made disasters and emergencies.
ESDA coordinates the county's disaster mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery programs and activities. It functions as the coordinating unit of the Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC), maintains the county's Emergency Operations Center and updates the Emergency Operations Plan. ESDA assists local governments with multi hazard emergency operation plans and coordinates state and federal resources during a disaster.
ESDA is the lead agency in the operation of Edgar County Alert, the primary means of warning the public of any safety issues. EC Alert is an electronic system that calls all telephone land lines and registered cell or Internet phones. You may also receive email notifications. Warnings are sent only to locations affected by emergency.
